Indy and the Amazonian Shroud (Part 17)

Indy, Rick and Short Round entered the boat. As soon as they got in, Hurricane looked at Indy and winked, saying, "alright brother, you and your friends better buckle up!" With that, a roof began to roll over the top of the boat and seal them inside and they began to speed off into open water. Indy was shocked at how huge Thunder was from the inside. From the outside it looked like a normal boat, but inside it was huge with screens showing what was going on around them, some kind of computerized command center, tons of radar information and a bunch of other futuristic stuff that he wasn't sure what it did.

Short Round kept asking Hurricane what stuff did and was trying to press buttons, but Hurricane seemed incapable of getting annoyed and was just excited that someone thought he and his boat were interesting. As they rode along Indy asked Hurricane if he would be delivering them to Beirut. "No, unfortunately ol' Thunder here can only stick close to shore, but I'll be delivering you to an island where you'll meet up with your next ride, and don't worry brother, you won't be disappointed in who I'm leaving you with!"

"Who is it?" Indy asked curiously.

"Well, brother, it's none other than..."

"Incoming call from 'RUFUS'" Thunder's AI interrupted. "Do you wish to take the call?"

"Of course!" Hurricane responded. The line beeped and Hurricane answered the call, "Rufus, how ya doin, brother?!"

"I have some concerning information that I need to share with you, Hurricane as well as Indy and his crew. Are you all there together?"

"Yes, we're here." Indy responded.

"Indy, it appears that there have been some spies within the Circuits of Time that have gotten messages back to various interested in parties who would prefer that the future of peace, love and being excellent does not come about. Those parties may attempt to throw a wrench into our plans. They only exist as long as the possibility of their future exists, so, once Ted is saved, they will no longer be a threat."

"Ok, but until then?" Indy responded.

"Until then, they are a very real threat."

"What should we expect? How do we prepare for this?"

"Well, I don't know every possible countermeasure they are attempting to take, but my own intelligence in the Circuits of Time have told me that one particularly nefarious potential future corporation has gone back to prehistoric times and acquired a megaladon to attack you."

Just then Thunder began sounding an alarm, "incoming, incoming! biological entity approaching quickly with intent to harm! incoming, incoming!" and suddenly the boat was hit hard, flew through the air and crashed back into the water. "I have been thrown off balance, stabilization propulsion activated" and then through a series of jerky motions Thunder righted itself and restored its initial trajectory.

"What just hit us!?" Hurricane asked in shock.

"That was the Meg, wasn't it, Rufus?" Indy responded.

"yes, it must have been."

"But why would it attack us?"

"Because it is programmed to hate you."

"How can a shark be programmed?!"

"Hold on there, brother, did you just say shark?! There's no way that the freight train that just hit us was a shark."

"Hurricane, the megaladon is a prehistoric shark, extinct in our time, but much bigger than any shark you've ever seen or heard of, but Rufus, how can a shark hate us? It's not possible to program a shark!"

"That's where you are wrong, Indy. It isn't possible in your time, but in the future, DNA work done on sharks intended for curing alzheimers in humans results in intellegent sharks that can hate, hold grudges, and even find pleasure in inflicting violence on others. The Umbrella Corporation of an alternate future has used this DNA work to weaponize this megaladon to destroy you before getting to your next ride."

"Who is our next ride, by the way?" Indy asked, having been interrupted the last time that Hurricane was about to tell them.

"You will finding out soon enough. Initially the plan was for you to meet her on a remote island, but due to the current situation, we have changed arrangements for her to meet you where you are."

"How will that work?"

"You'll know soon enough."

Just then Thunder let out another warning. "danger ahead! danger ahead! threat identified as megaladon straight ahead prepared to consume Thunder and those aboard!"

"Hope you guys are ready!" Hurricane yelled out. Then he opened the top of the boat, they were flying through the water at an insane speed. Straight ahead of them was the gaping mouth of the megaladon. There would be no avoiding it. Indy, Rick and Short Round had no idea what was happening and no time to figure it out. Suddenly their seatbelts released, and Thunder's jets shot into the water, pushing the boat into the air. The three flew out of the boat but were caught midair by some mechanical arm with a net and they were pulled into a high speed jet being flown by none other than Amelia Earhardt, and as this all happened, Indy looked down and realized that they were over the meg, and they had officially jumped the shark.
